Welcome to The Mecca of Bodybuilding

The 70´s and the 80´s were the golden era of bodybuilding. Weightlifting has a before and an after, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Until his eruption, bodybuilding was seen a different way, Arnold without doubt changed the perception of this sport.

Before him, men like Larry Scott (The biggest arms at that time) and Steve Reeves (The known Hercules of the mid-20th century) were leading the role, but the repercussion and the public opinion weren´t the same.

Eugene Sandow is considered the modern bodybuilding´s father, for having been the first in making musculature exhibitions. Sandow claimed the “greek ideal” about proportions of different parts of the human body and was one of the first to commercialise exercise equipments such as weights and pulleys.

Professional bodybuilders such as Reg Park, Steve Reeves or Johnny Weissmuller, inspired other great bodybuilders who came later.

Also known as “the bodybuilder philosopher”, bodybuilder, writer and businessman developed the bodybuilding concepts from Arthur Jones and improved them. After years of study , observation and knowledge of the stress physiology, as well as a carefull use of his reasoning abilities, Mike Mentzer was able to develop and put into practice a bodybuilding theory.

The Mentzer bodybuilding theory is intended to help people to reach their maximum muscle growth, adjusted to their genetic potential in the shortest time possible.

Arthur Jones remembered for having revolutionised the gymnastic world and the cult of the body.

It was thanks to Jones´s machines invention that gyms were no longer somber places to become mass centres in the modern culture .

In 1965 at Venice Beach, California took place the so-called: “TheMecca Of Bodybuilding” which was frequented by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dave Draper who appeared in the 1977 Pumping Iron film. The film not only attracted the own gymnasium´s attention but also the bodybuilding world and the physique in general. Nowadays, he´s considered a milestone in the bodybuilding´s subculture and has reached a cult status of the body.

Arnold, icon of this sport and total leader of the best generations that Bodybuilding gave. Endowed with another sense one of the most popular sports at the present time. Like it or not, It´s a sport. For the most nostalgics, these two decades were the best times.

Men such as Franco Columbu, Frank Zane, Lou Ferrigno, Ed Courney, Ken Waller, Danny Padilla, Mike Mentzer, SergeNubret and later Lee Haney, Tom Platz, Chris Dickerson or Samir Bannout are part of the golden era of bodybuilding. Most experts and nostalgics (including Servidor), put an and end to the golden era of bodybuilding with the arrival of the 90´s and the new century, where the bodies developed a mass excess , reaching almost deformity levels. Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman could be a modern time examples.

Arnold, as you can see in “Pumping Iron”, got retired in 1975 after winning his sixth Mr Olympia to dedicate to his business and proyects among them, the cinema. In 1980, he made a surprise return to his own colleagues, who learn it the same day of the contest.
